Highlights from the 2017 GSA Silicon Summit

Nearly 350 semiconductor professionals joined the 2017 GSA Silicon Summit for a day of presentations and networking. Representing every facet of the ecosystem, more than 16 companies participated in our 2017 exhibition. The 2017 GSA Silicon Summit was the highlight of the week, featuring 12 speakers from multinational semiconductor and network systems equipment companies. The keynotes featured opportunities fueled by Artificial Intelligence; new advancements in memory, storage, processor, and interconnect technologies; and cases of collaboration between suppliers and manufacturers within the semiconductor ecosystem.

Session 1 – With the theme ‘AI, et al. – Fuel for Growth’, Gary Brown from Movidius, an Intel company emphasized how AI is growing business in all areas; Gary Brotman, Qualcomm’s Director of Product Management, highlighted Artificial Intelligence moving to the edge; Justin Stanwix, Nanotronics’ CRO, presented how AI is fueling the 4th Industrial Revolution; while Stephen Pawlowski, Micron’s VP of Advanced Computing Solutions, emphasized that AI will trigger the next Computer Architecture Renaissance.

Session 2 – The opening presentation by VP of Portfolio and Technology Strategy at Mavell, Nick LLyadis, provided a look at the networked storage architectures for tomorrow’s data centers. CVP and Product CTO at AMD, Joe Macri, emphasized the Datacenter requirements for higher performance and reminded us that competition is essential for innovation. Craig Hampel, Chief Scientist from Rambus meanwhile focused on the topic of Satisfying the Exponential Demand for “Memory”. Venu Venugopal, VP Engineering at Cisco, presented the networking aspects of Hyperscale Datacenters.

Session 3 – Bristlecone President and CEO Irfan Khan kicked off the last session with an impressive discussion on Disruption and Digitization – Supply Chains in the IOT Era. With the theme ‘Refining the IoT Ecosystem’, Christophe Begue, Director Electronics Industry Solution Strategy and Business Development from IBM emphasized that augmented intelligence is the next big thing in supply chain and manufacturing; David Greenlaw, NVIDIA’s VP of Product Engineering explained the opportunities of utilizing machine learning to improve communications within the global supply chain; while Michael Schudenfrei, CTO at Optimal+, emphasized the next level of quality can only be achieved by data sharing.
