Default [SI-LIST] Not quite ready to let go of the WOM gag yet ....

Two other favorites of mine, wondering if anyone knows of a link to them
....
The Dark Emitting Diode (DeD) - I think this was a magazine article. The
devices were produced by taking ordinary LEDs and subjecting them to 120VAC.
They were reported to be useful as power-off indicators, and boasted a
manufacturing yield of 100%.

The Vacuum Tube Modem - also a magazine article (I think). Reported to
achieve incredible speeds by taking advantage of nonlinear behavior
intrinsicto the device. Also reported in the same article - a Russian
tube-based microprocessor, based on a single tube. It was called the
PentiumProtubeski, if my memory is correctly functioning in a write-read
capacity.

If you've got links to those articles, they'd be greatly appreciated.

Todd.

My favorite was the flashdark. You turn it on in the daylight and it casts a beam of darkness. Kind of like some managers, college professors, and politicians, just to name three groups who frequently cast darkness on things that are otherwise fully illuminated.

There is a guy who lives a few blocks from me who has an actual windmill mounted on the back of his pickup. I asked him about it one day and he said "You wouldn't believe the gas I save by generating electricity with the windmill." He didn't look like the type who would want to know about the Second Law, so I just said, "What an interesting idea." Hope - and suckers - spring eternal, as the saying goes. Actually no one has satisfactorily proven the Second Law yet, so who knows? The Universe looks sort of like a Perpetuum Mobile in some ways. At least it's been going for several billion years, and appears to be speeding up, not slowing down.

Unfortunately, flashdarks may not exist everywhere in
the world because not all languages may have a proper
word (name) for it.

For example, in my native language (Hungarian) the word
for flashlight is "zseblampa" which literally translates
to "pocket lamp", so I am not sure how I would formulate
an equivalent for "flashdark" from that. Does anyone
have a good suggestion? Marketing guys let your
imagination soar...

There are lots of get this: HHO water to fuel kits on the market. A
recent episode of Dateline featured a national operation selling this
junk for thousands of dollars telling people they are going to get 60,
80, even 100 miles per gallon.

Default [SI-LIST] Re: Not quite ready to let go of the WOM gag yet ....

OK, Todd, since we're on that "topic," here's the famous and wonderful Rockwell Retro Encabulator video

Todd.
