Default SDFlash vs. TMS320C2000 CCStudio On-Chip Flash Programmer Plug-In

Should I use Spectrum Digital's SDFlash or TI's CCStudio Plug-In.

I have installed the Plug-in, but how do I use it?

I am running TMS320LF2407A processor on a custom board and CCSv2.20
FET.

Any points to consider using both?

I think the main reason people use SDFlash is because it is a stand-alone
flash programming utility (i.e. doesn't require CCS). That way people on
the assembly line don't need to know anything about CCS and they don't need
to buy another license.

There should be a help file for the CCS plug-in. Try looking in Start ->
Programs -> Texas Instruments -> Code Composer Studio (C2000) ->
Documentation. I think there is a help file there for the flash plug-in.

In addition to what Brad said, the CCS plug in is very handy for
developers, when you need to download your code and test it running at
actual speed from flash. This may not be much of an issue with the
24x series, but it is with the 2812, where the code in the pipelined
flash executes faster than code from external RAM, even though the
flash has more wait states.

As for how you use it, if you installed it correctly, there should be
a new button on the tool bars in CCS. They symbol on the button is a
cloud with a lightning bolt. Just click the button and dialog box
pops up. I don't know what the dialog box will look like for the 24x
parts, haven't used them.

I can't find such a button.

Even under View > Plugin-toolbars, I see only Watch Window and nothing
else.

All I could find was the release notes. But I figured out the problem.
Am running Windows 98, and the Plugin is not supported on this OS. Will
have to upgrade to XP and then try

I also read that I need to initialize .const sections in the Page 0
memory instead of Page 1 as before. Is this correct?

Look under the Tools menu and their should be something like On Chip Flash
Programmer.
