Default An old question about buying dsk

I am learning how to implement DSP algorithms on hardware now and I
plan to buy a DSK. It is a quite old question and I have done some
research on the news group. what kind of board fits me well? I have
several ideas:

for second hand

1)TI C6711/C6211 DSK, they are old but they can be acquired as second
hand items from ebay and cheap. (a bad news I heard from my friend is,
the 6211 DSK he bought from ebay is with the chip "TMX320C6211 which
is an experimental chip)

for new DSK, i would say

2)Spectrum digital C6713 DSK

3)AD SHARC EZ-LITE, there is a university program and the price seems
reasonable.

Which one is better especially considering that I also want to
continue working on the DSK for my future study? and if anyone knows I
can get some good second hand DSKs? will I find second hand 6713 or AD
EZ lite?

Thanks

Default Re: An old question about buying dsk

I can't comment much on what Analog Device offers compared to TI, but as far
as TI products go, I've found the best value is to take one of TI's 1-3 day
"workshops" on the DSK of interest. Normally the workshop includes a DSK
that you get to take home with you. These workshops normally cost about the
same as buying the DSK off the shelf, but offer the added benefit of getting
a jump start on how to use it (and the toolset) effectively. If you value
your time as much as your money, I would be wary of buying "second hand
stuff"; buying the most recent hardware/software (and having a valid
license) is always a good idea.

Also, please note, the 62 family is fixed point the 67 family is floating
point. The AD SHARC is believe is floating point. So take that into
consideration. Development time and learning curve can be longer on fixed
point machines. (unless you are already familiar with fixed point
arithmetic/concepts)
