Default Detecting faint stars

Hi

I am thinking of trying to apply Higher Order Statistics ( i.e
Bispectrum etc) to improve information gathering of faint stars buried
in cosmic noise. Does anyone know if such techniques have been
successfully employed. Can someone point me to a relevant reference.

Thanks

Harvey

How faint do you wish to see? I.e., which magnitude? A 10 inch scope
can easily capture 17th magnitude stars with a simple camera when used
in a dark location. You may want to look up the Hipparchos and Tycho
star mapping missions to see how they did it. Speckle interferometry
has been used for binary stars.

Are you looking for accurate positions? Magnitudes? Colors?
