Hi!

I am currently investigating DSP techniques for my final-year
university project.
I want to create a program that uses an artificial neural network in
order to classify music genres.
Unfortunately, I have no prior experience with DSP. I was wondering if
anyone here could point me in the right direction.
I am particularly interested in DSP techniques that can be used to
extract features of music which are "informative" in terms of genre
classification.
The only thing I can think of is BPM and dominant frequency
extraction.

Any help, comments or links for further reading would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you!

Here's some conferences whose online proceedings will provide entry
points and further references.
