whither TMS320VC5502?

What's happened to TI's TMS320VC5502 DSPs? We've based some designs
on them, having easily obtained samples months ago. In October, TI's
web site said the chips were in production and available and a
distributor quoted us normal delivery with an 8-week lead time.

Now all of a sudden we can't get more samples, TI's web site says the
parts are not available, and neither we nor the distributor can get
answers from TI.

Does anyone know what's happened to the 5502?

Hello David,

"With this said I can tell you that we will TMS the C5502 soon. Moving
forward we will continue to offer the C5502 as a low cost solution."

This is a statement from TI's support from 14.11.03.
But things may have changed faster ...
