I personally have the following reasons for not joining such a group:

1. It is not a usenet standard newsgroup. This means

a. I can't use my own usenet news client and pull down articles from
your group but must instead use Google's web interface.

b. It may not be available across temporal and business boundaries. For
example, your group may disappear in two years should the Google moguls
sell out and the new owners ditch the custom newsgroups.

2. It decentralizes and fragments the focus of people who are
interested in this general area of technology, which I consider well
within the charter of comp.dsp

3. I abhor being advertised to.
