I wrote this tutorial about 8 years ago, so it describes tools that don't
exist on chips that are not available. Nevertheless, I think it still
has enough info and comparison of effort to results, that I haven't
taken the page down:

The underlying constraint system and the make up of slices in todays
FPGAs is quite similar to what I used for these examples.
