Reading Data from Camera to FPGA via USB

Hi everyone
I'm pretty new to the whole fpga programming and I was wondering if there's a simple way to read in data from a USB-camera (2048x2048 pixels,16 bit) to a fpga, do some maths with it (basically FFT) and send the results to a Computer (preferably via USB or RS232)? If so could I get some recommendations on which fpga I should use. I got LabVIEW and Matlab drivers for the camera so this would propably a good "programming language" for the fpga (I've worked with Quartus II and Verilog though)
